The Art of Champagne, Masterclass and Tour – The Victorians
Begin your experience with an exclusive out-of-hours tour of the Gallery led by Senior Storyteller, Daniel Hausherr, as he shares the fascinating lives of Queen Victoria, her family, and key figures who helped usher Britain into the modern age through culture and enterprise.
After the tour, head to The Portrait Restaurant for a Champagne Masterclass hosted by Martin Dibben, Searcys’ Master of Champagne. Discover how the tastes of the Victorian era reshaped the world of Champagne. As British preferences shifted toward a drier style, leading houses responded with iconic innovations – Veuve Clicquot’s Yellow Label, crafted to suit English palates and Pommery’s creation of the first Brut Champagne, breaking away from the traditionally sweeter styles.
You’ll also sample a curated selection of Champagnes from other renowned houses that played a role in this transformation. This session offers a unique opportunity to taste history in a glass, while uncovering how evolving trends in taste, branding, and innovation propelled Champagne to global fame.
