For Bacon, good food – its appearance, the images it conjured and, importantly, its colour – played a strong part in both life and art. Bacon had a fatalistic approach to life. As well as his art, he loved to gamble, and these, together with his desperate optimism saw him live life to the full until, enjoying a reputation as a flamboyant gourmand as well as one of the most famous and successful artists of the 20th century. The combination of the classic Bacon sandwich using Irish sugar pit bacon, English Lincolnshire butter and Shipton Mill flour with the most famous of all sparkling wines from France, Champagne (of which Bacon was particularly fond of drinking) highlights to us what Francis Bacon’s life was all about.
Available Wednesday – Saturday 15:00 – 20:30. Available on the bar only.
